(4.) Read: A letter from the Acting Captain Superintendent of Police (Captain DEMPSTER), applying for authority to engage a Coxswain for the Charles May at a salary of $10 a month.

The Committee recommend that the vote of $80, being the salary of a Coxswain for 8 months at $10 per month, be approved, as it is highly desirable to have efficient men in charge of the launches.

(5.) Read: a Minute by the Surveyor General (Mr. PRICE) relative to the conversion

of the Post Office Building into Offices for the Colonial Treasury,

The Committee recommend that the vote of $1,650, being the amount required for the alterations, be approved, as it will be most convenient to have the Treasury and Post Office in one building.

(6.) Read: A letter from the Surveyor General (Mr. PRICE), applying for a vote of $1,200 for the purchase of, and erection in situ of 12 force-pumps to be placed over public drinking wells.

The Committee, in view of the extreme necessity of preventing the water in the public drinking wells from being polluted by lowering dirty buckets into them, recommend that the vote of $1,200 be approved, in order that each well may be covered, and the water raised by strongly built pumps not liable to get out of order.

(7.) Read: A letter from the Surveyor General (Mr. PRICE), requesting a vote of $7,225 for the Crown Resumption of the remaining portion of Inland Lot 418.

The Committee recommend that the vote of $7,225 be approved, as the ground when once properly laid out and divided into Marine Lots will realise more than its present value.

The Committee adjourned until Saturday, the 10th instant, at 3 P.M.
